Trotting singer Kwon Do Woon just got gay and shared his plans to release music about a gay relationship!

On October 6th, the singer announced through his agency that he had decided to come out as gay. “I wanted to speak out for sexual minority rights and open the door to others in the entertainment industry to get out,” he said.

It is reported that he is the first Korean trot singer to publicly appear as gay. Trot is a genre of Korean pop music known for its distinctive singing style.

Kwon Do Woon is a trotting singer-songwriter who entered the industry in 2009 when he won the grand prize and the award for best lyricist and best composer at the tbs College Trot Song Festival. At that time he was studying journalism at Sogang University.

In 2010 he made his debut with his first album “One More Glass, It’s My Style” (literal title), which was released under his real name Kwon Hyuk Min. In 2011 he promoted the dance trot song “Tonight” under the stage name Kwonstin. He recently released a remake of singer Jang Yoon Jung’s Latin dance trot song “Casanova” and this year marks his 10 year debut.

Kwon Do Woon said to other LGBT people who dream of being a singer: “I want to become someone you feel related to and give strength to.”

On October 6th, Kwon Do Woon posted an article on Instagram about his appearance, saying, “I was very surprised to see all of the articles since this morning. I will work harder. Thank you for your support.”

In a phone call to the Newsen store, Kwon Do Woon was asked if he expected to receive such public support. “I wasn’t expecting it at all,” he said. “I’m so grateful and happy and it’s an honor.”

Kwon Do Woon said he has had casting offers from many television shows, and said he would particularly love to go to MBC’s Omniscient Interfering View to show himself and his manager.

The singer said he will release a new full album on October 30th. “It’s my eighth album, and the title track is a gay trot remake of Chae Yeon’s ‘Two of Us’.” He explained, “It’s a dance trot song about a man who seduces a man. It will be something new and fresh. “
