The relationships between the children of SBSThe penthouseGet more and more complicated with each new episode!
“The Penthouse” is a new drama that revolves around three women: Shim Soo Ryeon (played by Lee Ji Ah), the glamorous “queen” who lives in the penthouse upstairs in a 100-story luxury apartment; Cheon Seo Jin (played by Kim So Yeon), the arrogant and ambitious “prima donna” determined to protect what belongs to her; and Oh Yoon Hee (played by S.E.S. Eugene), a woman who strives to enter high society to help her daughter have a better life.
While “The Penthouse” has more than a fair share of adult drama, there is also plenty of intrigue, conflict, and tension between the children on the show. Kim Hyun Soo plays the role of Oh Yoon Hee’s daughter Bae Ro Na, a talented singer who confidently turns herself against her classmates while constantly teasing her.
Meanwhile, Kim Young Dae and Han Ji Hyun play Joo Seok Hoon and Joo Seok Kyung, the privileged twin children of Shim Soo Ryeon and Joo Dan Te (played by Um Ki Joon). Although from the outside they seem to have it all, the two face their own hidden turbulence. They also like to rebel and use the power they have over their classmates and teachers.
Finally, Choi Ye Bin plays the role of Cheon Seo Jin’s daughter Han Eun Byul, who is concerned that she will never be able to satisfy her demanding mother. After entering the same prestigious performing arts high school, the four kids get caught up in each other and compete against each other in unexpected ways.
Bae Ro Na versus Han Eun Byul
After Oh Yoon Hee and Cheon Seo Jin meet again for the first time in 25 years, they seem to repeat history as fierce – and sometimes violent – rivals determined to outdo each other no matter what.
However, the bad blood between the two mothers is also reflected in the burgeoning rivalry between their daughters. When Bae Ro Na first learned that she had been put on the waiting list for Chung Ah Arts High School while Han Eun Byul, who botched her audition, made it, she went to see Cheon Seo Jin in person for her accuse of corruption. Since then, Han Eun Byul and Bae Ro Na have hated each other with the same bitterness as their mothers.
In a troubling moment from the final episode of the drama, Bae Ro Na even reiterated her mother’s exact words that prompted Cheon Seo Jin to attack her in her own high school days, calling Han Eun Byul a “thieving slut”. It remains to be seen whether the relationship between the two girls will follow the same dark path – or whether they will be able to write their own story.
Bae Ro Na versus Joo Seok Hoon and Joo Seok Kyung versus Han Eun Byul
When Joo Seok Kyung’s abusive father, Joo Dan Te, learned that she had cheated on her twin brother during exams, he initially planned to send her abroad alone. However, Joo Seok Kyung managed to convince her father to let her stay with her brother by promising to beat Han Eun Byul to win the coveted Chung Ah Arts High School trophy.
In an attempt at psychological warfare, Joo Seok Kyung decided to take advantage of her ultimate rival Han Eun Byul’s crush on her brother Joo Seok Hoon. In order to upset and distract Han Eun Byul, Joo Seok Kyung convinced her reluctant brother, Bae Ro Na, who she knew was a source of uncertainty for Han Eun Byul. Knowing it would upset her, Joo Seok Kyung publicly declined an invitation from Han Eun Byul and asked Bae Ro Na to come to her house instead.
As Bae Ro Na and Joo Seok Hoon get closer on the orders of Joo Seok Kyung, the subtle tension in their dynamics has piqued viewers’ curiosity about how their relationship will develop. The audience is also waiting to see if Bae Ro Na can show their usual self-confidence and defend themselves against the mind games of the two scheming twins.
The Penthouse producers commented, “Kim Hyun Soo, Kim Young Dae, Han Ji Hyun and Choi Ye Bin brought out their refreshing charms to the full, adding a presence to the drama that is just as powerful as the adults in history. “
They added, “Please look forward to the twists and turns in the unpredictable story of The Penthouse Kids, the entanglements of which are as intricate as those of the adults.”
The next episode of “The Penthouse” will air on November 23rd at 10pm. KST.
