SF9's Rowoon tells how acting changed him as a person, his upcoming drama, and more

In a recent interview and picture for Marie Claire magazine SF9’S Rowoon reflected on his emerging acting career and how he’s changed since his debut four years ago.

When asked how he spent his time following the graduation of SF9’s latest title track “Summer Breeze”, Rowoon mentioned his upcoming drama “Sunbae, Don’t Put Your Lipstick On” (literal translation).

“I took on the role of Chae Hyun Seung in the drama Sunbae, Don’t Put Your Lipstick On, which is slated to air next year,” he replied. “So I focused on filming.”

Adapted from a popular web novel, Rowoon will star in the upcoming romance drama as the outspoken and handsome Chae Hyun Seung, the younger collaborator of Yoon Song Ah (played by) Jin Ah won).

Describing his character, Rowoon noted, “Chae Hyun Seung is a character who doesn’t look like he exists in real life. He has extremely high self-esteem, but he doesn’t make other people uncomfortable and he’s ready to both love as well as accepting hatred from others. If I had to sum up his charm in one word, he would be “fearless”. “

As he prepared for his role, the SF9 member shared, “I continuously studied and analyzed the script so that I could get the details of the character convincing, and I even tried to create ad-libs.”

Rowoon also revealed that getting into acting changed not only the way he thinks, but also how he sees other people.

“Because the acting profession requires you to physically re-enact a written story, I think that this process sometimes leads to you changing your own ideas and mindsets,” he explained. “Now that I’ve started acting, I try not to judge other people too quickly. And I also hope that others don’t judge me too quickly.”

Comparing his approach to his role in his previous drama “Extraordinary you“About his attitude while filming” Sunbae, don’t put your lipstick on, “said Rowoon that he had tried to change his mindset dramatically.

“Before I actually started filming this drama, I became very concerned about it,” confessed Rowoon. “I think it was because I wanted to do a really good job. When I played Haru [in ‘Extraordinary You’]I thought about the script for hours, but later I felt like it actually captivated me. In order to [for this drama]I didn’t prepare too much and jumped in while thinking, “Let’s just try it.” Because there is no fixed correct answer. “

“Right now I’m trying to feel relaxed,” he continued. “And I do little things like bringing little items from home to put on my character’s desk in the drama office.”

When asked to share his thoughts on the fourth anniversary of his debut with SF9 in 2016, Rowoon replied, “I’ve been busy and worked hard so it didn’t quite affect me [that it’s already been four years]. I am grateful that I can continue to advertise like this. Because it means that I am receiving love. While I’m not entirely sure what love is, I want to stay healthy and continue my activities to repay my fans’ love. “

The idol turned actor also spoke about his hopes and fears for the future. “When I had to name something that has changed since the beginning of my career, I used to think I shouldn’t change, but now I’m not afraid of changes,” he said.

“However, my ambition is still the same. It is the driving force that moves me. But I try to make sure it doesn’t swallow me whole. “

The last 12 months have been good for Rowoon in terms of his career: after establishing himself as an actor, he managed to win more than one award for best new actor, and in January SF9 took the first win in with her song the music show “Good Guy.”

Speaking of his accomplishments, Rowoon openly admitted, “I’ve said before that I’m trying not to get into numbers or rankings, but even when I say that, I think I’ve been paying some attention to those things inside . “

“Since we can’t decide about the future,” he continued, “I’m just trying to work hard in the present today. If I can do a good job at the work I’m doing now, then I couldn’t be in the small ones Things in my life will be happy no matter what my results are? “
