The astronaut film directed by Ryan Gosling brings Phil Lord & Chris Miller to the top
After landing Ryan Gosling (First man) to play the adaptation of Andy Weir’s new novel in his second space-centered project at the end of March Project Greetings to Mary found not one, but two thought leaders who took on the project in the form of Oscar winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: In the Spider-Verse), according to diversity.

The novel, which is currently only temporarily titled as Project Greetings to Mary and is scheduled to be released by Random House in spring 2021.a lonely story of an astronaut on a spaceship tasked with saving the planet. MGM acquired the rights to the novel in a large seven-figure order, with Gosling getting his hands on the manuscript and getting executives to hire Lord and Miller before he even finished it. After the duo recently signed a first contract for Universal, MGM boss Michael De Luca and Universal’s chairman, Donna Langley, who have a longstanding relationship, came together and found an amiable way to give the green light to Lord and Miller get direct.

Amy Pascal (Poison: Let there be slaughter, little women) is included to produce the project together with Gosling, Weir, Lord & Miller, Ken Kao and Aditya Sood, the president of the film of the director duo’s production banner. Sood already produced the adaptation of Weir’s Mars Set novel in 2015 The MartianDirected by Ridley Scott (Alien: Bund) and with Matt Damon (Ford vs. Ferrari), which was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Film and Best Actor.

Ave Maria marks the second Weir adaptation that Lord and Miller are reported to be working on when the duo signed up to lead a large-screen version of 2017 Artemis in September and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) in July 2018 to write the script. Because 20th Century Fox’s rights were held prior to the Disney merger, it is currently unclear whether this project is still in progress or has been put on hold by the House of Mouse.
