Members of the cast and production team for the international sensation “Parasite” were invited to join the academy!
It has been announced that the Academy of Arts and Sciences for Feature Films has invited 819 artists and executives from 68 countries this year.
The list of invitees includes “Parasite” stars Choi Woo Shik, Park So Dam, Jang Hye Jin, Jo Yeo Jeong, and Lee Jung Eun. Other names on the list include the film’s producer, Kwak Sin Ae, the writer Han Jin Won, the editor Yang Jin Mo and others.
Director Bong Joon Ho and actor Song Kang Ho became a member of the academy in 2015.
Yi Seung Jun, the director of the documentary “In the Absence” about the Sewol ferry, was also invited to the Academy this year; and Disney animation supervisor Lee Hyun Min, who has worked on films such as “Frozen” and “Moana”.
Already in 2016, the academy shared its goal of doubling the number of women and “underrepresented ethnic / racial communities” among its members by 2020. This goal has now been achieved as the incoming class consists of 45 percent women and 36 percent under-represented ethnic groups. Racial communities and 49 percent international.
The film “Parasite” from 2019 became a hit worldwide and achieved both box office success and critical recognition. It dominated the Oscars this year, winning four trophies at the February ceremony, including Best Film.
