“When I was the most beautifulIs the new Wednesday-Thursday MBC K drama with I am Soo Hyang, Ji Soo, and Ha Seok Jin. The melodrama series features an intense love triangle between two brothers and a high school art teacher. With all the lovely people in the cast and dramatic storyline, it was hard not to anticipate the premiere of this K-drama, and it actually delivered something. Here are five things we loved about episodes 1 and 2.
Warning: minor spoilers ahead.
1. It comes straight to romance
If you are a romantic you will love how quickly this series delves into romance. Within the first two minutes, Seo Hwan (Ji Soo) falls in love at first sight with his new teacher Oh Ye Ji (Im Soo Hyang) as he walks past her on the way to school. With the rain, music, lovely looks, and general ambiance, the opening scene has all the ingredients for a lovely romantic story.
As if the initial romantic scene wasn’t enough to give you all the butterflies, there is an additional scene with Ha Seok Jin later in the same episode where he watches Oh Ye Ji for the first time. The scene takes place in a ceramic studio – this is where all great love stories begin. You can already feel the chemistry between the characters.
2. The visuals that are the main lines
Talk about beauty.
In all fairness, seeing all three actors on screen is reason enough to get in the mood for the series. When you have Ji Soo’s innocent and handsome pictures alongside So Soo Hyang’s effortless beauty and Ha Seok Jin’s masculine charm, all of the beauty will make you dizzy. Aside from their obvious good looks, they are all so individually so talented.
3. See Ji Soo head over heels in love
Ji Soo has shown us time and again that he has all the talents and abilities to be respected as an actor. Ji Soo’s natural ability to display such a wide range of emotions in one simple look is everything. Seeing a Ji Soo in love when he falls in love with a girl is also pretty perfect. The best part about this drama is that he looks at Oh Ye Ji with those doggie eyes multiple times, which makes your heart beat a beat or two.
Ji Soo’s naive and innocent charm is also evident in this series. Ji Soo has the ability to portray the aura of the boy next door as well as the male mood in a scene. The versatility of his emotions puts you on a roller coaster ride of feelings. You will never be bored watching a Ji Soo drama!
4. The heartwarming father-son relationships
This series doesn’t stop at romance. Seo Sung Gon (Choi Jong Hwan) plays Jin and Hwan’s father. It is evident that he has a disability from walking around limping and it is later revealed that the accident that caused this had something to do with his sons. Hwan feels responsible for his father’s handicap and as a result lives his life in debt.
Seeing Hwan return to his family home and reunite with his father and little brother is such a heartwarming scene. You can really feel the love and connection the family members have with each other, which is a stark contrast to their cold mother who doesn’t seem to be in the picture. It is these moments that are quite comforting and really show the love the father has for his sons.
5. The bromance
One of the most anticipated aspects of this drama has been the chemistry between Ha Seok Jin and Ji Soo with the hope that they can break the fraternal bond and relationship that the love story of this drama is about.
To see how much Hwan takes care of his older brother is so adorable to watch. He seems to be very protective of him and wants him to stay around. The two are completely opposite in character, but they are closely related, and it is so heartwarming when Jin shows his affection for his little brother. Their chemistry is both adorable and heartbreaking because we know the two will fight for Oh Ye Ji. Bring the tears!
