“Skate Into Love” follows the story of a couple of childhood frenemies, speed skater Tang Xue (Wu Qian) and an ice hockey player named Li Yu Bing who shares big dreams on the ice. The two were desk mates in elementary school, and Li Yu Bing was a shy and cowardly boy who was often bullied by Tang Xue. The two meet again six years later at Lin Cheng University, where Li Yu Bing is the school’s star hockey player, while Tang Xue quit speed skating after a terrible injury. Li Yu Bing gets Tang Xue to be his assistant in order to take revenge on all the bullying during her elementary school days.

“Skate Into Love” is the drama that put Steven on the map earlier this year and helped him attract millions of new fans both at home and abroad. Viewers of the drama quickly fell in love with his character, the “ice god” Li Yu Bing, who has an immense passion for hockey. His character is really a friend as he is Tang Xue’s greatest supporter. Our OTP Tang Xue and Li Yu Bing have incredible chemistry as they have many sweet and funny moments along with their constant quarrel that naturally turns into real care and love for each other. “Skate Into Love” is a heartwarming and inspiring romantic comedy that you won’t want to miss out on!

“Young blood”

Steven starred in his very first historical drama, Young Blood, last year. The story takes place during the Northern Song Dynasty, which is at war with the Western Xia. It is a dangerous and tumultuous time as spies have infiltrated the capital to gather information about the Northern Song government. To protect their country, six young people are selected to undergo rigorous training and form a team of top elite spies. When joining the team, the six people often bump into each other because of their different personalities, backgrounds and hidden agendas. However, as they complete and face various life and death missions, they learn to trust each other and become an impressive team with a strong friendship.

“Young Blood” received positive reviews for portraying people chasing their dreams and demonstrating patriotism for their country. Viewers also praised the drama for its captivating characters and the unpredictable twists and turns in the plot throughout the show. In the drama, Steven plays Yuan Zhong Xin, who, together with Zhao Jian (Zhou Yu Tong), heads the elite team of spies. Audiences loved his mischievous street-smart character, Yuan Zhong Xin, who is not only super-intelligent but also an honorable, kind-hearted, trustworthy man who is fully at the side of his friends and family.

Symphony’s Romance

In addition to “Skate Into Love” and “Go Ahead”, Steven also starred in a third drama this year, “Symphony’s Romance”, the third live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga “Nodame Cantabile” by Tomoko Ninomiya. This drama adaptation follows Korea’s “Cantabile of tomorrow2014 and Japan’s “Nodame Cantabile” 2006.

In “Symphony’s Romance,” Steven plays Li Zhen Yan, an incredibly talented musician who receives offers to study abroad at various renowned music schools around the world. However, Li Zhen Yan suffers from a severe childhood trauma and stops his music career because he is afraid to step out into the big wide world while his past continues to haunt him. Things start to change when he hears the extraordinarily talented pianist Xiao Wo (Jelly Lin), who is considered even more talented than Zhen Yan. Xiao Wo is not your typical heroine with her eccentric personality and whimsical demeanor, but Zhen Yan can’t help but feel intrigued by her as they both share the same passion for music. While the two spend more time together, Zhen Yan slowly begins to heal from the wounds of his past and with Xiao Wo’s help he finds the courage to make his dreams come true.

Although “Symphony’s Romance” is an adaptation of “Nodame Cantabile”, it is a toned down version compared to the craziness of its Korean and Japanese counterparts, which makes it more of a drama in its own right. Our male lead actor Li Zhen Yan looks arrogant and distant on the outside, with high standards for music and life. He has always dreamed of being a conductor, but he cannot develop further in life because he is caught in the ghosts of his past. Drama fans loved Stevens’ portrayal of Li Zhen Yan because, unlike the character in the original Japanese drama, he is a much friendlier, gentler, and sweeter version.

The romance between our OTP Xiao Wo and Li Zhen Yan can be described as much more mature and in-depth, as their relationship naturally evolves from mutual admiration to a partnership in which they consider each other to be personally and professionally equal. They work together as a team to fully support each other’s ambitions and dreams and to help each other through their adversities and insecurities. In addition to being a romantic comedy, it’s an inspiring drama that focuses on friendship, personal growth, and following your dreams.
