JTBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Mystic Pop-Up Bar” tells the story of a mysterious man Pojangmacha (Outdoor drinking) so employees can visit customers in their dreams to solve their problems. Yook Sungjae plays innocent part-time worker Han Kang Bae, who appears very ordinary but has the special ability to get everyone to confess their secrets with the slightest touch.
Though he’s the only employee that’s still human, Yook Sungjae is brave enough to accompany his boss Wol Joo (Hwang Jung Eum) and Chief Gwi (Choi won young) in the dream world. As the drama evolves and Han Kang Bae becomes tougher against both his boss and afterlife, there are three reasons why Kang Bae is absolutely necessary for the mystical bar!
1. His extraordinary ability to open the mind of others with a single touch
Han Kang Bae has the impressive ability to sensitize everyone to their deepest problems with just one touch. Because of this ability, Han Kang Bae is exactly the person Wol Joo was looking for to win more customers and solve more problems. This job is also the perfect opportunity for Han Kang Bae, who was very lonely because he avoided touching to keep himself from hearing others’ personal problems. Instead of using their go-to method to distribute free food and drinks, that’s Pojangmacha uses Han Kang Bae’s help to attract customers efficiently.
2. His unlimited empathy
As Wol Joo said, Han Kang Bae is great at putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. Although he initially hesitated to hear other people’s problems, he immediately accepted their concerns and accepted them as his own as soon as he became aware of them. His willingness to solve everyone’s problems is often exhausting for Wol Joo, but she learns how tender his heart is because he cannot overlook the feelings of others. This kind-hearted compassion that Han Kang Bae possesses becomes an important element in neutralizing Wol Joo’s hot temper.
3. His fiery passion
Even though he only agreed to work part-time to get Wol Joo to improve his power, Han Kang Bae is always hardworking and willing to do whatever is required of him. Although his body takes a toll when he visits both the dream world and the afterlife as a human, he still does everything in every task Wol Joo gives him. Although Han Kang Bae is occasionally unable to read the room, his positive attitude and active attitude have led to many meaningful results, such as conveying his sincerity to the security guard Kang Yeo Rin (Jung Da Eun) or looking for a way to save the life of Choi Jin Dong (Ahn Tae Hwan). As he slowly develops his skills to solve other people’s problems, Han Kang Bae eventually becomes an integral part of the dream team “Mystic Pop-Up Bar”.
In the latest episode of “Mystic Pop-Up Bar”, the trio visited an orphanage in the afterlife where children who died before their parents stayed until they could reunite with their families. After seeing these children, Han Kang Bae gave an insight into his past and said, “In orphanages around the world, there are often circumstances under which children never get to know their parents, no matter how long they wait. I was like that too. “When he got sick and asked Wol Joo not to leave his site, viewers became curious as to what exactly happened in the past of Han Kang Bae when Wol Joo, Chief Gwi and the Pojangmacha give him so much strength and courage.
